Leaving from Nice
We take off from Nice and start the climb towards the East bound lower front mountains via the middle corniche road. The road is more or less uphill from we leave Nice and untill we pass through La Turbie. The views are stunning on the way up, the road is wide and in a good condition - and the climb is easy with gradients in average of 2-3 %.
We pass the beautiful bay of Villefranche-sur-Mer and follow the road along the coastline to pass close by the famous Eze Village with its characteristic middle-age old tiny houses.
From Eze Village we keep on climbing the middle corniche road to La Turbie. La Turbie used to be a Roman settlement. You will still see the remains of the Roman ruins as we move into the village, which rises above Monaco. If you wish, we can make a stop and have a look down over Monaco/Monte Carlo or have a coffee stop at one of the open-air cafées. Or simply stop to fill our water bottles at the village fountain - a common meating place for cyclists.
Leaving La Turbie by a small mountain road we will reach one of the most pretty sections towards Peille village. After a shorter 4-6 % gradient climb, the road flattens out for a longer stretch - and you can truly enjoy the view into the backcountry of Les Alpes-Maritimes. We follow the crangled mountain road to stop and enjoy the view over olive groves and take in the quiet village atmosphere in Peille, which is in 600 meters heights.
We turn our bikes to return to La Turbie - from here we will go back to Nice via the greater corniche road - the upper main road, which has little traffic so you better can focus on the descent. First - we will pass Col d'Eze - you have made a mountain top!
The view is amazing going back to Nice: The landscape of Eze village, Cap Ferrat and the Villefranche-sur-Mer bay takes your breath away.
